*23 juin à 19h : Rencontre avec LAURENCE VIALLET, éditrice, pour la parution du roman de KATHY ACKER Don Quichotte. Lecture par CATHERINE CORRINGER. Kathy Acker, née en 1947, a été l’assistante d’ Herbert Marcuse tout en gagnant sa vie en faisant du strip-tease et en collaborant avec des groupes punk. Elle a dominé la scène littéraire new-yorkaise des années 90 et meurt d’un cancer du sein en 1997. Chez Kathy Acker, don Quichotte est une femme qui, devenue folle après un avortement, se lance dans une formidable aventure : se faire chevalier errant et combattre les enchanteurs malins de l’Amérique moderne, en poursuivant “l’idée la plus insensée que jamais femme eût conçue. C’est-à-dire, aimer”. Elle erre dans un monde de mensonges et de faux-semblants, marqué par la brutalité des rapports entre sexes, la violence sociale, l’irrationnel religieux, l’oppression. Dans ce roman, qui est sans doute celui de Acker qui pose le plus la question du genre, du féminisme et de la liberté féminine, l’auteure offre un texte visionnaire, drôle, fou, insolent, savant, polyphonique, poétique en pulvérisant les frontières des genres littéraires. *28 June, 7pm In collaboration with the New York Univeristy in Paris, writers, poets and editors Dan Chiasson and Meghan O’Rourke will be joining us to read a selection of their work. Dan Chiasson is the author of three books of poetry, The Afterlife of Objects, Natural History and Where's the Moon, There's the Moon, and a book of essays, One Kind of Everything: Poem and Person in Contemporary America. He is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books. Chiasson is poetry editor (with Meghan O'Rourke) of The Paris Review and Professor of English at Wellesley College. Meghan O'Rourke is the author of Halflife (W.W. Norton). A poetry editor for The Paris Review, she is also the culture critic for Slate magazine and a founding editor of the web site Double X. She is the recipient of the 2008 May Sarton Poetry Prize. Her essays and poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The Kenyon Review, Best American Poetry, 32 Poems, and more. *30 June at 19h30 The journalist, historian, novelist and literary columnist Allan Massie presents his new novel, Death in Bordeaux. The author of over 30 books, Allan Massie was born in Singapore and brought up in Scotland. After reading history at Cambridge University he taught for fifteen years in Scotland and Rome. He has worked as an author and journalist since the mid-1970s. His most recent books are Surviving, a novel set in contemporary Rome, a family history called The Royal Stuarts, and a murder mystery, Death in Bordeaux. He is currently working on a sequel to it and on a non-fiction book about France 1940-2000, entitled The Spectre of Vichy. He writes a political column for The Scotsman and a literary one for The Spectator. He and his wife have three grown-up children and one granddaughter, and live in the Scottish Borders with dogs, cats, horses and hens. *30 juin à 19h : Rencontre avec l’association Mnémosyne et remise du PRIS MNÉMOSYNE 2010 : Allemandes au Chili de PAULINE BILOT. Née à l’initiative de la revue CLIO, Histoire, femmes et sociétés, Mnémosyne a pour but le développement de l’histoire des femmes et du genre en France, dans les universités et tous les lieux institutionnels, associatifs et culturels d’enseignement, de formation, de recherche et de conservation. Le livre primé cette année étudie l’histoire de ces Allemandes qui débarquent au Chili dans la deuxième moitié du XIXè siècle, actrices de leur destin et de l’histoire des deux pays. Mariées ou célibataires, elles choisissent de fuir l’Allemagne en crise. Correspondances et journaux intimes mis à jour dans cette histoire inédite de la migration se nourrissent de références aussi fondamentales que les notions d’ethnicité, d’altérité, de communauté, de citoyenneté et de genre, démontrant que l’”identité nationale” n’est pas qu’affaire de discours officiels tenus par les élites politiques.
