Marilyn is familiar to most of you, but for anyone who is not familiar with her writing, she is the author of over a half-dozen collections of poetry as well as the translator from the French of a collection of short stories by Vénus Khory-Gata and poetry by numerous French and francophone authors, including numerous collections by Claire Malroux. **7 decembre à 19h, Lecture au Musée Zadkine : Albane Prouvost Albane Prouvost est l’auteur du recueil Ne tirez pas camarades, Unes, 1995.En écho à sa démarche où la rigueur poétique s’allie au lyrisme, Albane Prouvost a choisi aussi de lire des textes de Victor Chlovski, Nadjeda Mandelstam et Svetlana Alexievitch, autant de vie et d’écriture qui s’inscrivent dans l’histoire tragique de l’Union soviétique.Victor Chlovski fut membre du groupe des formalistes russes. Proche des futuristes, il est aussi l’auteur d’essais Théorie de la prose, Résurrection du mot comme de romans Zoo, Voyage sentimental, La Marche du cheval.Nadjeda Mandelstam (1899-1980) fut l’épouse du poète Ossip Mandelstam, et comme lui, persécutée par le régime stalinien. On lui doit, outre des correspondances avec Chamalov ou Soljenitsyne, une trilogie autobiographique : Contre tout espoir. Svetlana Alexievitch (1948) est journaliste et écrivain. ***11 Dec--7 PM Berkeley Books of Paris and the Wice literary journal Upstairs at Duroc invite you to a reading by poets Michelle Noteboom and Sandy Florian. We will also be celebrating the Paris launch of both poets' first books. Michelle Noteboom won the 2006 Heartland Poetry Prize for her book Edging (Cracked Slab Books). Other work has appeared in Verse, Fence, Boston Review, Sentence, Columbia Review, and Gargoyle, among others. She's lived mainly in Paris since 1991, where she co-curates the Ivy Writers Reading Series, works as a freelance translator in the French audiovisual industry, and translates poetry. Sandy Florian earned her MFA in Creative Writing at Brown University, where she was the recipient of the Francis Mason Harris Award for the best manuscript by a woman. She also won the New Voices Sudden Fiction prize for 2003. She is is currently a doctoral candidate at the U of Denver. Her first book, Telescope, is published by Action Books, and a chapbook 32 Pedals and 47 Stops is forthcoming with Tarpaulin Sky Press. Her poetry and prose have appeared in national and international journals such as Bombay Gin, Versal, elimae, La Petite Zine and Gargoyle, among others. **11th Dec 7pm: Reading at Shakespeare & Co by Charles Glass: reading from and signing copies of The Northern Front: A Wartime Diary and Alexandre Najjar reading from and signing copies of The School of War. GLASS was Chief Middle East Correspondent of ABC News from 1983 to 1998. In 1987, while writing his book Tribes with Flags, Hizbullah kidnapped him in Lebanon and held him until he escaped two months later. He is also the author of Money for Old Rope and The Tribes Triumphant. He writes regularly for The London Review of Books and The Independent. Najjar was born in Lebanon in 1967. He is considered to be one of the best Lebanese novelists of his generation, and has won many prizes, among them the Bourse de l’Ecrivain from the Fondation Hachette, the Prix de Poésie de la Ville de Paris, the Prix du Palais Littéraire, the Prix Littéraire de l’Asie, the France-Liban Prize and, most recently, the Amsterdam Prize. *18 Dec—7pm SHAKESPEARE & CO reading features A.F. Harrold and Melanie Challenger. Bio: A.F. Harrold is an English poet who works in both serious and silly veins. On the straight side he’s been compared with Liverpool poet Brian Patten, and on the performance side he’s something between John Hegley, John Cooper Clarke and Pam Ayres. He’s performed at Cheltenham Literature Festival, Reading Comedy Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe, WOMAD, the Latitude Festival, the Camden Fringe, the Canadian Festival Of Spoken Word (Vancouver) among other places, and is regularly seen in poetry slams across the UK (he was a guest in 2005 at the Copenhagen Slam) and occasionally wins.
