How do we remember? What is the self? Siri Hustvedt is the author of four novels, The Blindfold, The Enchantment of Lily Dahl, What I Loved and The Sorrow of an American. 9 November 7:00 P.M.

George Vance and Troy Yorke read for Poets Live. Ohio-born,long-time resident of Paris, George Vance is presently involved in experiments with word/image fusion, tags, & street art. His hybrid language & image video installation, “HEIGHTS”, was exhibited in Brussels in 2006, & he recently designed a ‘totem’ sculpture with a Kanak artist. Author of Bent Time, a chapbook, his poems have appeared in Paris in Pharos & Upstairs at Duroc. He has read at numerous Paris venues including The American Library, Wice, Paris Writer’s workshop, Live Poets, The Red Wheelbarrow, & as part of the multi-voiced performance group “Quadriphonics” (with Jennifer K Dick, Michelle Noteboom & Barbara Beck). Vance has lived in Liberia, Austria, Germany, France & the French Overseas ‘Country’ of New Caledonia/Kanaky. His poems can also be found on the collaborative poetry blog rewords, of which he is a member, as well as on-line at the web magazine ‘RETORT’, the Paris poets anthology Ekleksographia, and at Nth position. Troy Yorke’s poetry celebrates everything abhorrent and taboo with irreverence and humor, much in contrast to his work as a professional Life/Business Coach. His work brings marginalized voices centre-stage in a variety of experimental forms, language-play and character monologue, seeking beauty in the absurd. He has had some poems published in small magazines including Toronto’s Fab Magazine and he is currently compiling a volume of selected poems for publication. Living in Paris, Troy divides his time as writer, performer, business coach and workshop facilitator for the Coaches Training Institute. There will be a third reader. AT: Violette et Co. 102 Rue Charonne 75011. Métro: Charonne

Pre-registration required by November 15 (Register online at: http://www.wice-paris.org) An unusual exhibit of works by the preeminent Franco-American artist Louise Bourgeois, who died recently at 98, is on show in an intimate setting - the house (now a museum) once inhabited by the writer Balzac. Especially created for this museum, the works are based on Bourgeois's psychological identification with Eugénie Grandet, the central character in Balzac's famous novel of that name - a woman who was a pawn of those close to her and never given the chance to grow up. The artist is known for her organic and suggestive works, but best remembered for unleashing dozens of giant bronze spiders around the world (created while she was in her 80’s), memorably in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern in London. Discover this final exceptional and autobiographical work and visit, in what was once the “village” of Passy, the house and gardens containing the museum of the man who introduced realism in European literature. 19 November at 7:00 P.M. AT: Violette et Co. 102 Rue Charonne 75011.
